Hayley Rosenblum & Blonie Dudney
VENUE: Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis
WEDDING DATE: October 21, 2017
ABOUT THE COUPLE: She’s a third-year law student at Saint Louis University School of Law, he’s a physician and retina surgeon.
HOW DID YOU MEET?
Blonie and I met in Madrid, Spain, all thanks to my dad! I had just quit my job as an athletic trainer, and decided to take the summer off to travel before beginning law school in the fall. I managed to convince my best friend to go to Spain with me for a couple weeks to visit my brother, who was studying abroad there. Unbeknownst to me, my dad had met Blonie in Canada through mutual friends a couple weekends before and hit it off right away. My dad, who already had plans to meet us in Spain, decided to invite Blonie along for a “guys trip,” failing to mention my existence. I thought my dad was crazy for inviting a “stranger” along to what was supposed to be a nice weekend with my brother, dad and best-friend. I also thought it was crazy that Blonie would agree! Turns out, it’s the best thing that could’ve ever happened!
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO HIM/HER?
Hayley: Besides his looks? His manners. He’s definitely a Southern gentleman, which was a breath of fresh air for me! He’s always opening the doors for me, pulling out chairs, giving me his jacket, complimenting me, etc. I didn’t know guys like that still existed!
Blonie: I was initially attracted to her beauty and dedication to family. I soon learned she was also intelligent, thoughtful and humble.
HOW DID HE PROPOSE?
He told me we were going on a romantic dinner date—just the two of us—since we hadn’t done it in a while. As we were about to leave the house, Blonie told me to look at Juice, our cat, who had a big shiny red thing hanging on her collar. I knelt down to look at it, and the tag on the collar said, “Will you marry me?”I turned around and he was right there on one knee with a ring out. I freaked out, and obviously said yes! Once I calmed down and fixed my makeup smears from the tears, he took me to the Racquet Club in the Central West End, where he had rented out a room for dinner, spread with roses and candles, and surprised me with all of my closest friends and family. He even flew his sister in! It was such a special night.
HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT HE/SHE WAS THE ONE?
Hayley: As soon as we got back to St. Louis and we officially started dating, I just kind of knew. I don’t know if there was any defining moment. I will say, though, that literally a week into dating, I came down with some awful illness and my parotid gland in my neck swelled up the size of a grapefruit. I obviously didn’t want him to see me in that state, in fear that he would run away. He insisted on seeing me every day, bringing me care packages, etc. He just surprises me every day with his kindness, acts of selflessness, and his huge heart. He’s honestly the most generous human I’ve ever met. He loves making people smile.
Blonie: I knew she was the one when, early in our relationship, we were watching a cooking show and Hayley turns to me and asks, ” Do you mind if we turn the football game on? ”
WHAT DID YOU LEARN ABOUT EACH OTHER DURING THE WEDDING PREP PROCESS:
Hayley: We learned if we can make it through that process, then we can make it through anything! Hah!
Blonie: I’m not sure what she learned about me, but I saw an unbelievable amount of patience and kindness in Hayley as she dealt with the ups and downs of planning a large wedding.
WHAT WAS MOST MEMORABLE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING?
So many! Besides saying “I do” at the altar, I think it was our first look—walking down the glass stairs in the Four Seasons, seeing each other for the first time that day, just the two of us for that short moment—it was such was an incredible moment.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE OTHER SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Katy Perry crashing the wedding around midnight! I was actually in the hallway saying goodbye to my photographer, when Katy Perry and some of her backup dancers casually walked up to me and congratulated me. I thought I was hallucinating or getting punked or something. She said, “We heard the music upstairs and we’re just looking for an after-party, do you mind if I crash your wedding?” She was on the dance floor with all our guests, it was great! The whole night was perfect, and that was just the cherry on top.
