HOW DID YOU MEET?

Rebekah: We attended the Journey Church in Murray, Kentucky, where we both graduated from Murray State University. Josh was a volunteer with the children’s group at the church, and I had stayed the summer in Murray. During the summer of 2011, Josh and I went on a mission trip to Guatemala with a small group from our church.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO EACH OTHER?

Rebekah: After spending a week in Guatemala together, serving the people there, I was attracted to how much of a caring personality he had for others. I also thought that he had a great smile. The more that we got to know each other, I realized that it was always so easy and comfortable to be myself around him.

Josh: She has beautiful eyes, a great smile and a kind heart.

HOW HE PROPOSED

Rebekah: As a couple, we have always enjoyed exploring different places. On New Year’s Eve, Josh had planned for us to spend the whole day exploring St. Louis. Our first stop was at the City Museum. Our next stop was Crown Candy Kitchen, a historical diner that has been part of the city for over 100 years. We stopped by and shared a strawberry malt shake. Our next stop was the Science Center. Then, we had dinner at a nice restaurant. Our last stop was to the Missouri Botanical Garden. During the holiday season, the garden has a light show, which is something that we had wanted to see. While walking around and looking at the lights, Josh found a secluded area that was set up as a picture spot. I love pictures—and little to my knowledge, instead of taking a picture, he got on one knee and proposed. He had asked my mom to meet us there so that she could videotape the proposal because she knew I would want a picture or video.

TELL US ABOUT THE WEDDING DRESS

Rebekah: Ever since I was little, I had always imagined having a very simple, yet elegant dress. What made my dress even better was that while we were at the shop, the worker was showing me all types of dresses, which were a little too ornate for me. My mom was looking by herself in the store and she found the perfect dress.

WHAT WAS UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING?

We met on an international mission trip, and had gone on another together while we were dating—we love to travel together. So, for our wedding and reception, we decided to have a vintage travel-style theme. We had decorations of vintage suitcases, globes, and we made arrows with destinations of places that we had been together as a couple.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE MOMENTS FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Rebekah: My favorite part of the wedding was having all of our friends and family together in one area to celebrate. The weather was beyond perfect for our day. Another favorite part was seeing Josh at the altar.

Josh: My favorite part was seeing her for the first time that day, ready to walk down the aisle.

HOW I KNEW THIS PERSON WAS THE ONE

Rebekah: While we both lived in Murray, we had the opportunity to get to know one another. After I graduated, we decided to try long distance. It was then that I realized he would be the one.

Josh: After we started dating long distance, and I couldn’t imagine living the rest of my life without her.
