Girl Scout cookie and beer pairings at EdgeWild

It may have snowed throughout the St. Louis area yesterday, but there are some eclectic and exciting new restaurants springing up around town!

Today may be National Girl Scouts Day, but EdgeWild Bistro & Tap is celebrating all month by offering Beer Pairings with Girl Scout cookies at its Creve Coeur location. That’s right – the Internet has been buzzing about Girl Scout cookie pairings with wine, but the folks at EdgeWild say chocolate pairs better with beer! EdgeWild Bistro & Tap is located 12316 Olive Blvd.

The Shack Breakfast and Lunch just opened its fourth location in O’Fallon, Missouri (or MO’Fallon, as they like to say!). Consistently voted “Best Breakfast” and “Best Brunch” in many of the foodie polls around town, popular breakfast dishes include If Tims and Biebs Went to Prison, Love Me Now, Hate Me Later, Make a Grown Man Cry, and Where Does Bacon Come From? OG Hospitality Group check presentation to BackStoppers

And more there’s more good news about The Shack: OG Hospitality Group (OGHG), which owns The Shack, The Corner Pub & Grill and The Tavern, held its annual, month-long fundraiser for The BackStoppers in February. All three brands and locations participated, selling BackStopper Bucks in $5, $10, $25 and $100 denominations to its customers. On March 5, OGHG owners Brant Baldanza and Jon Fogarty presented a check for $125,000 to the organization, which helps the families of fallen police and firefighters. Of the total money raised, Baldanza and Fogarty personally donated $50,000. Since 2007, OGHG and its customers have raised $850,000 for BackStoppers.

Speaking of firefighters, The Old Spaghetti Factory downtown is holding a Tip-A-Firefighter fundraiser on April 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy a delicious three-course meal, served by a firefighter. Do you get fired up over pizza? Opening March 21 – with a bang – is Firecracker Pizza & Beer in The Grove. Serving up a variety of spicy, square pies, salads and 60 beers on tap, the signature item is the No Sleep ‘Till Brooklyn pie, with turkey pastrami, white barbecue sauce, sauerkraut, mozzarella, Swiss, Thousand Island dressing and toasted caraway. Firecracker Pizza & Pie is located 4130 Manchester Ave. – just look for the big, black cat mural on the side of the building.

Burnt Ends from A Fine Swine

Want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little differently this year? Cork & Barrel Chop House and Spirits in St. Peters is holding a very spirited Irish Whiskey Workshop on March 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. Guests will learn all about the history of Ireland, sample five different Irish whiskeys, enjoy Irish appetizers and even play an Irish game! You might not think barbecue and Easter go hand in hand, but according to the folks at A Fine Swine in New Baden, Illinois, they really do!
