Insight Theatre Company has announced its lineup of shows for the upcoming season. Insight, which is celebrating its 11th season and its second year as a .ZACK resident arts organization, will be performing shows at the Kranzberg Arts Center, The Grandel and the .ZACK in Grand Center.
Kicking off the 2018 season at the Kranzberg Arts Center from March 2 to 18 is “The Last Romance,” a comedy/drama written by Joe DiPietro and directed by Alan Knoll, about an opera-loving American in his 70s who once auditioned for the Met. Currently widowed, he meets an attractive woman named Carol while living with his sister, Rose. It will star local favorites Joneal Joplin, Maggie Ryan and Tommy Nolan.
The Oscar Wilde classic comedy, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” runs July 12 to 22 at The Grandel, with performances by Tom Murray at Lady Bracknell and TV veteran Ruth Ezell as Miss Prism. Ed Reggi directs.
Closing out the season is “Silent Sky,” from Oct. 19 to Nov. 4 at the Kranzberg Arts Center. The play, which tells the story of brilliant Astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, who made remarkable discoveries in the early 1900s. Maggie Ryan directs.
Also on tap is Insight’s annual Theatre for Young Audiences production, “Honk!” which plays Aug. 3 to 5.
In the past decade, the company has produced high-quality plays and musicals that have garnered recognition from the St. Louis Theater Circle, the Kevin Kline Awards and BroadwayWorld.com Awards. Nominated for St. Louis Theater Circle awards include Gwen Wotowa, Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery,” and John Flack, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for “Next to Normal.” The St. Louis Theater Circle awards ceremony, which honors outstanding achievement in locally produced professional theater, will be held on Monday, March 26, at the Loretto-Hilton Center.
