More than 140 local artists are opening their creative spaces to the public this weekend for the Contemporary Art Museum’s 12th annual Open Studios STL. The event offers attendees the chance to meet artists, see the spaces where they work, and learn about their creative process.
First up is a Kick-Off Party at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis on Friday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. Over the course of the weekend, art lovers can explore on their own, take bike or bus tours, or join curators and other arts professionals in discussions with participating artists.
The Big Shark Bike Company will lead free bike tours of artist studios from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 8. Participants are encouraged to bring their bikes and helmets, and meet in front of CAM at 10 a.m.
A CAM Young Friends Studio Crawl will combine a bus tour (and party) from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Admission is $25 and $20 for CAM Young Friends-level members.
Printed maps for the tours are available at the museum. A complete list of artists with images of their work; dates, times, and locations for curator/artist discussions; program updates; tours; and an interactive map are available at openstudios-stl.org.
