How do you top a spectacular 100 years? The Muny has found a way to do it with the announcement of its upcoming 101st season. For the summer of 2019, The Muny’s has revealed another jawdropping lineup that includes the Tony, Oliver and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical “Kinky Boots.”
It’s quite a coup for The Muny: It’ll be the first theatre in the country to produce the smash hit musical, with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, based on a book by Harvey Fierstein.
And after more than half a century, Muny audiences will see the return of Lerner and Loewe’s “Paint Your Wagon.”
The 80s-dance favorite, “Footloose,” the powerful musical retelling of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “1776,” and the Muny premiere of the Tony and Oliver Award-winning “Matilda” round out the rest of the season.
Show order, performance schedule and audition dates will be announced later this fall. Subscription renewals will be mailed early December. New subscriptions will go on sale in March 2019, and single tickets will be available beginning May 2019.
“This is a thrilling, eclectic line-up that I believe will take the Muny audience on another great summer adventure,” said Muny artistic director and executive producer Mike Isaacson. “It’s a new century, and a new stage, and here we go! Gulp!”
The Muny is in the midst of its Second Century Capital Campaign, an undertaking that includes a complete rebuild of the stage (currently underway), as well as the support, maintenance and upkeep of the campus, and the building of the theatre’s endowment.
