The Saint Louis Ballet’s upcoming Spring Gala has us all abloom with excitement: The sixth annual event, themed “An Enchanted Evening in the Garden,” will be held Saturday, April 18, at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis.

The Fox Theatre’s Mary Strauss, whose energy and generosity in numerous arts and civic endeavors over the years have spurred countless good works, will be the evening’s honoree.

Saint Louis Ballet artistic director Gen Horiuchi notes Strauss has been an ardent supporter since the company’s early days.

“Our community is lucky to be home to the brilliant Mary Strauss,” Horiuchi said. “She is a believer that St. Louis should have a professional ballet company and has supported Saint Louis Ballet for many years. I am grateful for the opportunity to honor her, not just for her support of our organization, but for her stewardship of all of the arts in our community and throughout the country.”

Strauss is best known for overseeing the restoration of the Fox Theatre, along with her late husband, Leon, as well as for helping to establish the Grand Center Arts District. She is the co-owner of The Fabulous Fox Theatre and of Fox Theatricals, whose productions have received more than 190 Tony Award nominations and 65 Tony Awards.

Strauss’ commitment to the arts and to young people is embodied in the programs offered by Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, such as the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition and the St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Award.

Proceeds from the April 18 Spring Gala will support the Saint Louis Ballet’s mainstage season and host of programs it offers as the metropolitan region’s professional ballet company. Event co-chairs are Miran Halen, Laurie Lock, Brooke Meek, Pat Whiteside and Carol Voss; with Joan Quicksilver as advisory chair.
