The In Motion Conference will help put the Midwest on the map as a major movie-making hub when it presents over 200 filmmakers at the region’s first filmmaking event of its kind, on Saturday, Nov. 2, in downtown St. Louis.

The event will take place at the Covo co-working space, and is organized by Continuity, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to expand diversity in media production through skills-based training, mentorship and opportunities for untapped talent.

The one-day conference will afford both novice and professional filmmakers from St. Louis and the surrounding Midwest region the opportunity to learn from industry experts, network with peers, and participate in Continuity’s ongoing efforts to expand diversity in film. All profits from the conference will go to Continuity’s programs.

Attendees will hear from filmmakers whose films have played at Sundance and premiered on Netflix and national television. More than 25 speakers include Damon Davis (director of “Whose Streets”), Stephanie Tobey (producer of the Netflix documentary, “Abducted in Plain Sight”), and David Johnson (president of Coolfire Studios, producers of “Fast N’ Loud” and “Welcome to Sweetie Pies”). A Pitch Competition and happy hour networking event will round out the day’s activities.

“The support for the conference has truly blown away our expectations,” said Dan Parris, conference director of In Motion and executive director of Continuity. The conference’s planning committee is made up of 11 local artists and influencers.

St. Louis’ emerging and growing film community is evident through the creation of the conference, the growth of Continuity, the St. Louis International Film Festival being recognized as a top film fest to travel to, and the St. Louis Production Team’s Facebook group, which includes 1,000 people. In addition, internationally recognized outlets like Sundance, Tribeca and Seed & Spark have representatives who will be attending and taking part in the conference.

The conference is sponsored by the Missouri Film Office, Wildlife Command Center Movie Animals, Bruton Stroube, Explore St. Louis, SAG-AFTRA and Cinema St. Louis, among others.

Markus Burns, American producer for reality television, and the CEO of Burns Avenue Entertainment, is one of the pitch panelists at the In Motion Conference.
