Election Day is finally here and the decision is yours: How do you plan to toast your vote?

While I may raise a glass in honor of the red or blue candidates, I’ll first drink to the end of all those electioneering ads and mailers – the endless communications bombardment that could drive one to drink.

Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why back in the day, you couldn’t buy a drink until after the polls closed. Actually, it was to encourage making a sober decision.

Nevertheless, time marches on and the bars will pour drinks before the polls close. Counted among those drinks served, look for political-themed libations as those created by The Watergate Hotel, where  the day’s featured drinks are red- and blue-colored cocktails to match your vote: The Elephant Trunk  and The Running Mate, two sophisticated libations the hotel mixologists have generously shared the recipes for Gazelle readers to enjoy. So, drink up! Pick the red or the blue. Either way, just don’t forget to vote!
