Trish Set: Food is Served at the Foundry, Plus Fun Fundraisers!

One of St. Louis’ most anticipated dining destinations is now open: The Food Hall at City Foundry STL officially welcomed its first diners on Wednesday, Aug. 11, with 11 different kitchens offering a variety of cuisines.

City Foundry in Midtown St. Louis is designed as a community gathering spot with a mix of eateries, entertainment spaces, shops and offices. The property, transformed from the century-old Federal-Mogul manufacturing foundry, was cited by TIME Magazine as one of the reasons St. Louis ranked among the publication’s “Greatest Places in 2021.”

A good-sized opening day crowd got their fill from a diverse lineup of menu offerings, from breakfast items like crepes and pancakes to light and heartier fare like poke bowls, Pan-Indian dosas and West African rice and stew dishes.

The Food Hall is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with each kitchen setting its own hours of operation. There are currently three kitchens serving breakfast each day: Good Day (authentic crepes, breakfast sandwiches, coffee), Patty’s Cheesecakes (hand-crafted cheesecake and other sweet treats) and Press Waffle Co. (Liege-style sweet and savory waffles, hot and cold coffee drinks). Eateries such as Buenos Aires Café (various empanadas, skirt steak sandwiches, Chorpian sausage), Chez Ali (Ivorian Senegalese cuisine featuring stews and other dishes cooked with spices, cabbage, carrots and onions), Kalbi Taco Shack (Asian-Mexican fusion tacos, burritos and rice bowls), Poptimism STL (unique ice pops made from local, seasonal produce) and others are open for lunch and dinner service.

A second round of kitchen openings is planned for September and October. A complete list of open kitchens and hours of operation is available on the City Foundry website.

The St. Louis Area Diaper Bank is hosting its fifth annual Fill the Warehouse drive from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. An in-person diaper drive, as well as an opportunity to drop off donations, will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank warehouse at 6141 Etzel Ave. in St. Louis. Other ways to help include hosting an Amazon online virtual diaper drive where diapers can be sent directly to the Diaper Bank; or collecting monetary donations (for every $1 donated, the Diaper Bank is able to purchase eight diapers for children in need).

During last year’s drive at the height of the pandemic, the nonprofit collected 90,000 diapers for area families. Through its network of community partners, the Diaper Bank distributes approximately 250,000 free diapers a month to families in need. Since its founding in 2014, it has provided more than 5.1 million diapers in St. Louis. For more information on how you can help, visit the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank website.

The Nov. 18 event will be held at the Touhill Performing Arts Center and will feature an evening of Muny favorites, special tributes and more. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Denny Reagan Endowed Fund, created to support all areas of operation of the country’s oldest and largest outdoor theater. Ticket information will be released soon from the official event page on The Muny’s website.
