Savory Sounds and Small Plates: OTSL’s Opera Tastings

Eat, drink and listen. Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ annual delight for the senses, Opera Tastings, an unforgettable culinary concert series, once again kicks off the upcoming season.

The series challenges local chefs to create tastings to match opera selections. And opera lovers, foodies and anyone hungry for savory sounds and tantalizing small plates won’t want to miss this year’s offerings. For those not familiar, Opera Tastings is an excellent way to introduce oneself to opera and expand one’s palate for wine and food.

If you have friends, especially friends that are foodies you have always wanted to introduce to opera, this is the perfect opportunity.

The series is held over five nights, beginning on Wednesday, March 11, at Das Bevo, featuring the creative cuisine of Ces & Judy’s Catering. Thursday, March 12, follows with Chef Jack MacMurray leading the menu at Moulin Events; Monday, March 16, is Chef Ron Buechele’s night at Mad Art Gallery; Wednesday, March 18, is the Mandarin House, where dim sum and traditional Chinese cuisine will take center stage. The finale is Sunday, March 22, at the .ZACK Urban Ballroom in Grand Center, with food by Turn’s Chef David Kirkland.

Each culinary concert features exceptional artists singing selections from across the history of opera.  Arias, duets or trios are paired with food and drink crafted specifically to complement the music. Tickets prices are $35, which includes small plates, pours, music and song.
