Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Mya will headline the upcoming Frizz Fest Natural Beauty Festival in Tower Grove Park.
The free event, now in its sixth year, will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, with more than 40 local Black-owned small businesses, and a lineup of food trucks and food vendors participating. In addition, the festival features live music, a Hair Fair and Hair Show, a Youth Zone with games, arts and crafts, and more.
A limited number of tickets will be available for Mya’s performance at the Stupp Center at 3 p.m., with opening act BeBe kicking things off at 2 p.m. Tickets (from $50) will be available beginning at noon on Friday, July 7.
Frizz Fest and its nonprofit arm, Frizzy By Nature, were founded in 2017 by Leslie Hughes to encourage self-love and inspire confidence among women. It was also a way for Hughes to channel her emotions following her mother’s death – by giving Black women, underrepresented groups and their allies and neighbors a place to find joy and feel supported.
“FrizzFest is a place where you can have fun, be yourself and find people who are on a similar journey,” Hughes said. “People are there to live authentically and be present in their journey, whatever it is and wherever they are.”
