A new book documents the storied inaugural season of St. Louis CITY SC, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club that makes its home in what many consider America’s first soccer capital.
“Year One: St. Louis CITY SC” by St. Louis author and soccer reporter Dave Lange explores the birth and buildup of the team and relives all of the thrilling sellout matches held at CITYPARK, as well as highlights game summaries, pictures and player statistics.
In its first year, the club won the most games by an expansion team in league history and emerged as the first MLS expansion team to capture its regular season conference championship. Every home game saw 22,423 fans who filled CITYPARK to capacity.
Lange, who is also author of “Soccer Made in St. Louis: A History of the Game in America’s First Soccer Capital,” has covered St. Louis soccer for local and national media outlets since the 1970s. His latest, “Year One: St. Louis CITY SC” by Reedy Press, is available wherever books are sold.
