Attention Blues and Lobster Fans: Little Blue Moves to St. Louis

Little Blue, the famous blue lobster, is a Blues fan, of course. In tribute to the St. Louis Blue’s big win, Arnold’s Lobster & Clam Bar in Cape Cod has donated it to the new St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station. Photo courtesy of Arnold’s Lobster & Clam Bar

Big, blue and beautiful! A rare blue lobster is coming to the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station.

Caught in the Atlantic, Little Blue – I prefer to call him Big Blue – was originally delivered to Arnold’s Lobster & Clam Bar on Cape Cod. Thankfully, its rich blue hue saved it from the steamer pot. It’s been on display at Arnold’s since it arrived, until now. Arnold’s owners are donating it to St. Louis’ new aquarium in honor of the St. Louis Blues’ Stanley Cup win.

Details of the transport are still being arranged, but native New Englander Erin Clark, the director of animal projects for zoOceanarium, the operator of the St. Louis Aquarium, will personally escort the esteemed guest back to St. Louis.
Arnold’s, who named the lobster Little Blue, are true blue Bruins fans. They felt that the lobster belonged in St. Louis to celebrate the Blues victory.
“We are thrilled that Arnold’s thought of St. Louis and that we will be able to move the lobster to a safe, new environment,” said Aaron Sprowl, curator of the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station. “We will be arranging to pick it up and will work on creating an exhibit that will allow our visitors to view and learn about this very rare animal.”

Opening in late 2019, the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station is being created in a 120,000- square-foot, two-story footprint. It will be home to more than 13,000 animals in a million gallons of water. The aquarium is under construction in the National Historic Landmark St. Louis Union Station, built in 1894 as the biggest and busiest train terminal in the United States. The $187 million family entertainment complex will also feature the St. Louis Wheel, a 200-foot-tall observation wheel, and other attractions and restaurants. The complex is home to the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton.
