To pair with our Irish / St. Patrick’s Day theme, this week’s pick-me-up dessert is a frozen concoction that’s not only green, but also good – as in yummy good – and good for you: Avocado Shakes!
Trish is sharing her own tried-and-true recipe for this heavenly treat that also happens to be healthy, packed with vitamins and antioxidants that promote heart health, reduce inflammation and help lower cholesterol, among other benefits. Plus, the avocado’s naturally smooth, creamy flesh makes it the ideal texture for the perfect milkshake!
You’ll only need four ingredients and a blender, so what are you waiting for?
AVOCADO SHAKE
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk (or 2 tablespoons sugar)
- 1 medium-sized, ripe avocado, sliced
- Handful of ice cubes (8 to 10 pieces)
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in a blender, starting with milk and condensed milk (liquids first), and then avocado and ice.
- Blend at medium speed for about 30 to 35 seconds, or until desired smooth texture.
- Place in glass or mason jar; serve with a straw.
Note: Each recipe is for one serving (approximately 16 ounces), and can easily be doubled. If you prefer a less-sweet dessert, use half the amount of condensed milk or sugar. Enjoy!
And in the spirit of St. Patrick’s day, we impart to you an old Irish blessing:
May good luck be with you wherever you go
and your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.
