Friends and supporters of The Black Rep celebrated the 45th anniversary of the award-winning St. Louis arts institution during a black-tie gala at the 560 Music Center.
The evening began with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by an awards ceremony and a one-night-only concert by the acclaimed Fisk Jubilee Singers. A post-event reception concluded the festivities.
The Black Rep founder and producing director Ron Himes, along with board president Lionel Phillips and master of ceremonies Brian McKinley, presided over the awards presentation. Honorees included Washington University law professor Kimberly Norwood and the late poet and educator Jonathan Smith, recipients of the Frankie Muse Freeman Spirit Award; actress Starletta DuPois, The Muny’s Denny Reagan and playwright Edward Smith, recipients of the Woodie King Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award; and Centene Charitable Foundation president Keith Williamson, recipient of the President’s Award.
Hank Webber and Keith Williamson served as gala co-chairs.
Gazelle magazine served as a proud media sponsor of the event.
