St. Louis Black Restaurant Week: Five of My Favorites

St. Louis recently launched it’s second annual Black Restaurant Week, which runs through Sunday. The week was organized by Frank R. Williamson III to honor and give well-deserved attention to black-owned restaurants across St. Louis.

Foodies and friends have the opportunity to enjoy a three-course dinner for $30 at any of the participating restaurants. Visit stlbrw.com to check out the amazing offers available.

There are a few black-owned restaurants that my family and I go to when craving soulful, homestyle cooking. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Krab Kingz
When I heard that it was coming to St.Louis, I was overwhelmed with joy. I love seafood boils, and this place has the best in St.Louis. There are also multiple-flavored butters that you can choose from. My first experience eating there was great. The manager took the time to speak to every single table to ensure that everyone was having a pleasant experience. You can’t beat that!

African Palace Bar & Grill
If you are looking for traditional Afro-Carribean food and a good time, this is the place to go. This restaurant serves authentic dishes such as jolloff rice, plaintain and my personal favorite, goat pepper soup. If I am craving African food, this is the first place that comes to mind. The establishment doubles as a nightclub on some nights of the week, as well.

De Palm Tree
This is one of my go-to restaurants for traditional Jamaican cuisine. As soon as I walk in the door, my nostrils are filled with the scent of delicious spices. It serves some of my favorites such as curry goat, jerk chicken and rum cake. The service here is impeccable, as well.

Mi Hungry BBQ and Jamaican Cuisine
I absolutely love this place! This is another one of my favorite Jamaican joints, with traditional Jamaican foods and desserts, such as callaloo,  red snapper and jerk chicken. The food is always fresh, hot and delicious. I can’t forget to mention the signature Mi Hungry lemonade.

Sweetie Pie’s Soul Food
I grew up eating Miss Robbie’s cooking. The staff here has always been very kind when it comes to making customers happy. Sweetie Pie’s serves many of my soul food favorites, including baked macaroni, collard greens and cornbread. I’m sure you have seen this restaurant on TV on popular channels such as OWN and Food Network. This is a must if you want to treat yourself to a home-cooked meal.
