The American Red Cross urges you to donate blood this summer to make sure the blood supply is sufficient when hospitals need it.
The Red Cross usually sees a 21% drop in blood and platelet donations during holiday weeks, including the Fourth of July. When blood donations drop, so does the blood supply, making it challenging to make sure there is enough to fill the need in the community.
As a thank you, donors who give blood between June 30 and July 10 will receive an exclusive Red Cross recycled cotton tote bag, while supplies last.
Numerous blood drives – many of them taking place at shopping malls, gyms, churches and other convenient locations – are scheduled across the St. Louis area, including the Metro East.
