ABOUT THE COUPLE: He’s a contract lobbyist and business consultant. She’s a public relations and public affairs strategist. The couple lives in University City.
HOW DID YOU MEET?
Tom: I found Brittany’s beauty so devastating that I plotted for 18 months on how I’d meet and marry her. Finally, our mutual friend, David Steelman, introduced us, and we’ve been together ever since.
WHAT INITIALLY ATTRACTED YOU TO EACH OTHER?
Brittany: I was attracted to Tom’s intelligence, compassion and love for dogs.
Tom: I was attracted to Brittany’s assertiveness, her ability to say what she means, and her love for dogs and family.
HOW DID HE PROPOSE?
Brittany: After failed attempts at picking out a ring, Tom proposed to me at the jewelry store on a Tuesday, during my lunch break. It was pouring down rain outside and both of our dogs were in the car. It was supposed to be a quick stop. After I picked out the ring, Tom stepped outside to make a call. I later found out he was calling my dad to ask for permission to marry me. He then came back into the store, got down on one knee and proposed.
WHAT WAS UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING?
We threw out the handbook and did everything our way. It was personal and tailored to the appreciation of our journey and our love for family, friends and our dogs. It was important to us to give thanks to the many loved ones who were a part of our path as we grew as people and found our way to each other. We also wanted the ceremony to be about our coming together as one. We had a unity candle and a crystal ceremony.
YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
The ceremony, for sure! It was great to finally see each other. We worked hard to make the ceremony about us so we were able to relax and take in every second. The space was small and personal, so we could feel and see our loved ones around us.
WHAT DO YOU CHERISH MOST ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP?
We’re best friends and the other one’s balance. Therefore, we make each other whole and can be completely ourselves when together. We are only truly relaxed and at peace when we are together.
WHEN DID YOU REALIZE THAT THIS PERSON WAS THE ONE?
Brittany: We knew the moment we saw each other. Tom and I each texted a mutual friend to let her know we just met the person we were going to marry. Sometimes, at first glance, your eyes land on someone’s heart.
