The new season of “Project Runway” debuts this Thursday on Lifetime television. The new episodes are filled with fashion firsts, medical emergencies and celebrity guests, like Thom Browne, Cyndi Lauper and Leslie Jones.
Christian Siriano, who serves as a new mentor to the designers on the show is being credited for bringing “Project Runway” back in style. The show became somewhat stale after losing the original stars, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum. Due to respect for privacy, The Last Hotel in downtown St. Louis could not confirm whether it was hosting a private watch party on Thursday for local guests with Siriano and the other show hosts in attendance. Also expected to attend is St. Louis native Karlie Kloss.
Hopes are high that the ratings will go up with the addition of Siriano, who work has been featured in the pages of Gazelle magazine. Siriano was the winner of “Project Runway,” season 4. He is one of a few top global designers who is conscious about creating garments for all women, regardless of age and size. Siriano has dressed the likes of Angelina Jolie, Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Oprah Winfrey, as well as former first lady, Michelle Obama.
“The whole point of being a designer is to make people feel good,” Siriano told Fern Mallis, in an interview. “We’re not here to cure cancer; we’re here to make people look cute in a dress. You want to look cute in a dress and you’re a size 26, why not?”
