A most unique destination in the heart of Midtown St. Louis opens its doors to the public this weekend.
City Winery – billed as the first-ever urban winery and live entertainment venue in St. Louis – makes its debut at City Foundry STL Saturday, March 18, beginning at 4 p.m.
The winery occupies a multi-level space located at the west end of the Food Hall at City Foundry with its own street-level entrance adjacent to the garage for free parking.
City Winery has a restaurant and wine bar, tasting room and retail area, and an intimate concert venue that seats up to 225 people for live music and other performances. In addition, expect the on-site, fully functioning winery to open soon.
On tap for the grand opening is the first in a series of live performances, with singer-songwriter Gilbert O’ Sullivan taking the stage for the inaugural concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Other performers in the coming weeks include The Verve Pipe (March 23), JD Simo & Mattie Schell Album Release Party (March 24), Two Dykes and a Mic (March 25), Magnetic Fields (March 27 and 28), Kris Allen & Trent Harmon (March 31), Boy Band Review (April 1), Brendan Bayliss of Umphrey’s McGee (April 4), Glenn Jones (April 5), End of the Line – An Allman Brothers Tribute (April 7), Steve Ewing Band (April 8) and more.
The Barrel Room Restaurant & Wine Bar offers a globally influenced, wine-inspired menu that uses locally sourced ingredients to yield palate-pleasing results. From standout apps like Whipped Feta, Burrata and Mushroom & Goat Cheese Risotto Balls to an array of artisanal cheeses and cured meats, to burgers, pizza and more, there are plenty of options that are perfect for pairing with City Winery’s own vintages. Wines come straight from eco-friendly stainless-steel kegs using the company’s proprietary tap system. A selection of craft beers and cocktails is also available.
The restaurant will be open for dinner service, while guests can enjoy the tasting room and wine bar before and after concerts. The venue has 2,000 square feet of event space that can accommodate up to 400 people.
To date, City Winery has several locations, including New York, Atlanta, Chicago and Nashville, with plans to expand west in the next few years. CEO Michael Dorf, who founded the company in 2008, spent his college years in St. Louis.
“Opening City Winery in St. Louis is something that I have wanted to do since I started the brand in 2008,” Dorf said. “Having spent several years living in the city while I was in college, it feels right to once again join this incredible community within the historic building of City Foundry STL.”
