Deborah Katon’s ‘What I Know’ at Kranzberg through St. Patrick’s Day

St. Louis-based multidisciplinary artist and educator Deborah Katon’s exhibit at the Gallery at the Kranzberg Arts Center presents her fabricated artifacts that juxtapose fact with fiction and investigate the pursuit of knowledge in an age riddled with “fake news.”

Staged as artifacts presented in a museum, the exhibit runs through March 13.

“What is real? With fabricated artifacts and fictional narratives, my work weaves in and out of exploring this question,” Katon said. “The pursuit of knowledge is akin to the creative experience that is then edited to present as a finished ‘piece.’

“I make objects as visuals to communicate. Arrangement, placement and context relay information to the viewer,” she added.

“What I Know” is the first in a series of year-long exhibitions at the Gallery at The Kranzberg centered on the overarching theme of “Knowledge.”  Many of the artists utilize varied applications of language while considering the historical, intuitive and practical applications of knowledge in our culture. Working in collage, photography, painting, printmaking and sculpture, as well as multidisciplinary pursuits, these exhibitions provide an expansive answer to the question, “What is knowledge?”
