Designer’s Heart Disease Diagnosis Inspires this Weekend’s Solo Fashionable Art Exhibit

Yoro

With an impressive body of work as an artist and designer, Yoro Newson “Yoro” is a force in the region’s fashion scene. Her stunning one-of-a-kind pieces have been featured on runways, in art galleries, television segments, and they have been worn by St. Louis’ who’s who.

On Sunday, Yoro will present her body of work in her first solo exhibit “ART`E FACTS,” showcasing stunning fashion artwork that she has created over the last 10 years. The event is in honor of her late mother, Dorothy, and helps raise awareness about heart disease.

“In 2008, I was diagnosed with Pericarditis (inflammation around the heart) and in 2016 my mother died from a massive heart attack,” Yoro said. “So, in conjunction with sharing with you some of my works over the years, I feel that this exhibit exhibits my love and concern for each of you and sharing my story brings awareness to the subject of heart disease, because we as African Americans are the subject and self-care is the best care.”

“ART`E FACT” runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 425 S. Florissant Road in Ferguson. While the event is free to attend, monetary contributions will be accepted for the American Heart Association in honor of Yoro’s mother. There will be a silent auction where one winner will receive a photoshoot package valued at more than $1000.
