Rihanna just officially released her highly anticipated fashion maison, FENTY.
The website’s visual display pays homage to photographer Kwame Brathwaite of Harlem, who also shares Bajan ancestry, along with Rihanna. Brathwaite’s photography heavily contributed to the historic “Black is Beautiful” movement of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
FENTY’s “Release 5-19” includes garments, footwear, sunglasses and fashion jewelry. The collection’s structural design is softened by built-in, waist-cinching corsets and vivid colors.
“Women are forces of this earth. We are multifaceted, complex, vulnerable, yet bulletproof, and FENTY speaks to all of our intricacies. Some days I want to be submissive, many days I’m completely in charge, and most days I feel like being both … so it was imperative that we created a line versatile enough to embrace and celebrate us in that way.”
