Banish those winter blahs with a blissful day at the spa! At the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, the focus is on rejuvenation with “Fire & Ice,” a set of lavish, sensory treatments that combine to realign and restore mind and body. Of course, the over-the-top service the Four Seasons is known for is part of the experience every step of the way.
Our day of pampering began with the Fire & Ice Stone Massage ($275 to $305). At first glance, the combination of heat and chill may seem counterintuitive for a satisfying, relaxing treatment, but the Fire & Ice Stone Massage seamlessly incorporates the two distinct opposites that work in perfect harmony to bring the body into equilibrium. Each 80-minute session starts by relaxing the body with warm, St. Louis-made Mother Earth pillows, filled with flaxseed, herbs and other good-for-you ingredients for a soothing, therapeutic experience. Warm basalt stones help alleviate stress and liquefy tense muscles, while the fusion of cold marble stones encourages increased circulation, reduces inflammation and removes toxins. Throughout the massage, a winter aromatherapeutic mix of eucalyptus, fir balsam, cypress and cedar wood oil helps to boost the respiratory system and fight infection.
We extended our stretch of serenity with the Diamond Ice Facial ($220 to $250). Designed to treat dull winter skin, the facial focuses on anti-aging, radiance and hydration by using Natura Bisse products. The luxury skincare line is known for its innovative Diamond collection of age-defying solutions, including an intense brightening treatment made with a powerful blend of ingredients to restore skin’s radiance, as well as formulas to treat skin exposed to environmental stressors and DNA damage. Expert massage techniques deliver the potent combination of cutting-edge ingredients onto the skin, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and revealing a more even-toned skin that’s as smooth as silk. As an added indulgence in-between applications, a scalp, neck and shoulders massage aids in even deeper relaxation.
Emerging from the facial cool as a cucumber, we concluded our day at the spa in the salon with the most pleasurable of pedicures: the Fire & Ice Pedicure ($130 to $160). Using the same hot-and-cold therapy, it begins with a heated aromatic foot soak to relax tired legs and feet, followed by a cooling exfoliant to help soften and smooth skin. A heated stone massage promotes increased circulation before the application of an invigorating menthol and eucalyptus cryo-gel. A hydrating hand massage, coupled with Mother Earth warming mitts, extends the care to dry hands and cuticles. A calming aromatherapy bouquet and a side of herbal tea complete the state of relaxation and tranquility.
Fire & Ice offerings include Fire & Ice Stone Massage, Diamond Ice Facial and Fire & Ice Pedicure. Each treatment may be booked individually or together to experience the ultimate in winter wellness renewal. Altogether, the treatment lasts 3 ½ hours, and the cost ranges from $625 to $710.
