Funnyman Jay Pharoah is bringing his standup show to St. Louis this weekend.
The actor and comedian, who rose to fame as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” will perform at Helium Comedy Club for three nights, Friday, Sept. 1 (7:30 p.m.), Saturday, Sept. 2 (7:30 and 10 p.m.), and Sunday, Sept. 3 (7 p.m.).
Pharoah tells Gazelle headlining at comedy clubs across the country is “the best job in the world.”
“Traveling and making people forget about their problems by making them laugh, even if only for an hour or two,” is the best part about touring, he says.
Pharoah’s most recent work includes Comedy Central’s “Out of Office,” “Mort in Sherman Oaks” and “The Blackening.”
Television credits include starring in ABC’s Emmy Award-winning Live in Front of a Studio Audience versions of “All in the Family” and “Good Times.” He also served as host for Nickelodeon’s “Unfiltered” game show.
Pharoah made his mark as a comic on “Saturday Night Live” with his spot-on impressions of President Obama, Ben Carson, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Will Smith, Ben Carson, Stephen A. Smith and others. He spent six seasons on the show from 2010 to 2016 before moving on to his first leading role as Floyd Mooney on Showtime’s “White Famous.”
When asked about who is making him laugh these days, Pharoah didn’t have to look far.
“My nephew, Parker, is making me laugh hysterically these days because, just like old folks, kids can’t not tell the truth,” he said.
Along with his current tour, Pharoah just concluded filming his comedy special, which is expected to come out later this year.
