Breast cancer remains the most common cancer in American women, no matter her race or ethnicity, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And current statistics from BreastCancer.org show that an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer (along with 62,930 non-invasive cases) are expected to be diagnosed in 2019.
While the incidence rates for breast cancer in the U.S. have been declining since 2000, global statistics continue to be a concern, with some studies revealing that every 15 seconds, somewhere in the world, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.
To commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign has recommitted itself to saving lives around the world by supporting research and spreading awareness. Since 1992, when Evelyn H. Lauder co-created the pink ribbon and started The Breast Cancer Campaign, the company has been proactive in its mission to create a breast cancer-free world by inspiring action, funding the world’s leading research to bring us closer to a cure, and bringing a global level of awareness to the disease through its brands and employees.
Estée Lauder’s campaign (#TimetoEndBreastCancer) has raised more than $79 million globally for research, education and medical services through the collective support of its consumers, employees and partners around the world. Citing the disease as the most common cancer in women worldwide—as well as its increasing rates, particularly in developing countries, where the majority of cases diagnosed are in the late stages—the company says its call to action is an urgent cause. Estée Lauder’s 2019 Breast Cancer Campaign has launched the 2019 line of Pink Ribbon products—19 in all, with proceeds from sales benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Among the products offered this year is the iconic Pink Ribbon Pin. Inspired by Evelyn H. Lauder, who founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 1993, this year’s Pink Ribbon Pin features a touch of blue in the design to represent the men who are also touched by the disease. Each pin is $12.50, and can be found at most Estée Lauder counters nationwide.
