Happenings: Our Top Picks for March 2019

WHAT: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

WHERE: The Rep

WHEN: Various times, March 13 to April 7

What could possibly go wrong? Nothing but calamity, disaster and fiasco—that’s the scenario for the opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor.  A maelstrom of madcap madness ensues, complete with collapsing scenery, unconscious actors and a stage crew pushed to the brink. The Rep is the first American company to self-produce the show outside of New York City, but will it survive this train wreck of a play within a play (insert evil laugh here)? Come find out and experience what The Huffington Post has called “the funniest play Broadway has ever seen!”

WHAT: Rachel Whiteread

WHERE: Saint Louis Art Museum

WHEN: March 17 through June 9

Hailed by The Wall Street Journal as the “greatest living British artist,” Rachel Whiteread casts the interiors of buildings, household objects, furniture and even toilet-paper rolls, capturing familiar but often overlooked areas of the home. Over the course of her 30-year career, she has changed the way that the world thinks about sculpture. Her reverse casts of negative spaces, made of industrial materials such as concrete, plaster and resin, transform the ordinary and unseen into something enduring, striking, and impossible to ignore. The exhibition Rachel Whiteread is the first comprehensive survey of the artist’s practice, bringing together more than 90 works that chart a course from her early career to the present, and range in scale from the diminutive to the monumental. The exhibition previously has been shown in London, Vienna and Washington D.C.

$12 ($8 seniors and students, $6 children 6 to 12), free for members; slam.org
