Jim Butz stars in “The Night of the Iguana.”

WHAT: The Night of the Iguana

WHERE: The Grandel

WHEN: Various times, May 9 to 19

Tennessee Williams’ steamy and startling “The Night of the Iguana” is the mainstage production of this year’s Tennessee Williams Festival St. Louis. Jim Butz, one of St. Louis’ most acclaimed actors, stars as Shannon, a pastor who has lost his flock, his religion, and has—at the very least—misplaced his sanity and sense of decency. Joining him in the cast are Lavonne Byers, Nisi Sturgis, Elizabeth Townsend and Harry Weber as Americans who take refuge at a seedy Mexican hotel during the run-up to World War II. Tim Ocel, who helmed last year’s award-winning “A Streetcar Named Desire” returns as director.
