In this edition of Gazelle magazine publisher and lifestyle editor Cillah Hall’s “Just Cillah” podcast, writer and art critic Antwaun Sargent shares the inspiration behind his work, importance of equality in art and fashion and his background.
Growing up in Chicago, he then spent time in Washington D.C., where he interned for a presidential candidate before being catapulted into the art and fashion world – accidentally. Sargent is the author of “The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion,” his first book.
His exhibition “Just Pictures” debuted on Sept. 10, and runs through Nov. 21, at projects+gallery at 4733 McPherson Ave. The group show features photographers who work between the spaces of fine art, fashion photography and the history of the medium to construct a contemporary experience.
Featured artists include Arielle Bobb-Willis, Yagazie Emezi, Joshua Kissi, Mous Lamrabat, Renell Medrano, Ruth Ossai, Justin Solomon and Joshua Woods.
