‘Kids to Parks Day’ Promotes Connecting with Nature

Channel nine is partnering with the National Park Trust and National Park Service for an event highlighting “Nature Cat,” an animated PBS KIDS’ series designed to encourage children to explore and develop connections with the natural world.

The event will bring nature- and STEM-focused, curriculum-based media to the public through “Kids to Parks Day” from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 at Gateway Arch National Park.

The free event will include a costumed character appearance, activity stations where children can make something to take home, and more.

Education television for early learners is part of the founding mission of Nine. Nine PBS KIDS airs 24/7, and is broadcast free over the air on channel 9.2. Nine PBS at 9.1 also airs children’s programming in the mornings throughout the week.

“We are proud to be a partner of this event. “Nature Cat” encourages kids to go outside and play. And you can be sure that what they are watching is age-appropriate and curriculum-based, because PBS KIDS is the most educational brand out there,” said Amy Shaw, interim president and CEO of Nine Network. “In surveys, 83 percent of parents say PBS KIDS helps prepare children for success in school.”
