A Zimbabwean winemaker and the star of the acclaimed new documentary, “Blind Ambition,” will be the guest of honor at a free wine-tasting and screening at 9 Mile Garden this week.
Tinashe Nyamudoka and three others from Zimbabwe belonged to a team that competed in the World Wine Tasting Championships in Cape Town and rose to become one of South Africa’s top sommeliers.
The uplifting documentary tells the story of Nyamudoka and his friends, refugees from Zimbabwe who formed that country’s first-ever wine tasting team and set their sights on the coveted title of “World Wine Tasting Champions.”
Nyamudoka founded Kumusha wines in South Africa in 2017. As winemaker, he blends his own wines and exports a range of varietals to the U.S., Zimbabwe, Kenya and the Netherlands. “Kumusha,” in Nyamudoka’s native Shona language, means “your roots,” “your home” and “your origin.”
On Friday, Sept. 2, 9 Mile Garden is hosting a free wine-tasting of Kumusha wines, as well as a meet-and-greet with Nyamudoka and a screening of “Blind Ambition.”
The event will be open to the public beginning at 5 p.m., with 9 Mile Garden’s dinner service and live music schedule continuing as planned.
During the event, distributors Baobab Wines and Pinnacle Imports will be offering free tastings of Kumusha Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet and Cab/ Cinsault.
