The first-ever Evening of Promise, to benefit the American Lung Association in Missouri, promises an interactive culinary experience on June 13 at The Caramel Room at Bissinger’s.

Guests are invited to “taste the states” at a variety of tasting stations featuring cuisine from different regions of the U.S., including the Southwest, West Coast, the South, and, of course, St. Louis. Other sampling opportunities include a chocolate and wine pairing, as well as a truffle dipping experience.

The cocktail-style event is not only a way for the community to come together to enjoy great food and desserts, but also support the Lung Association’s work to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, according to the association’s executive director Brett Schuette.

“Here in Missouri, more than 850,000 people suffer from a lung disease, so the fight for healthy lungs and clean air touches all of our lives. We invite our community to join us for this fun new event,” he said.

The Evening of Promise will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Caramel Room at Bissinger’s, and include several food and dessert stations, beverages, music and a short program. For tickets, visit the Evening of Promise website

Almost 90 cents of every dollar raised at the event will go to the American Lung Association’s local programs and services, including research, advocacy and public health education. The organization’s work is focused on four strategic imperatives: to defeat lung cancer; to improve the air we breathe; to reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families; and to eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.

One of its biggest events, the Fight for Air Climb at the Metropolitan Square, challenges individuals and groups to race up the stairs of downtown St. Louis’ tallest building (40 floors, 856 steps) to raise money and awareness to fight lung disease.
