Attention wine lovers: Missouri’s Grape and Wine industry is witnessing an early harvest throughout the historic village of Augusta.

David Hoffmann, owner of the Hoffmann Family of Companies, has announced the purchase of Mount Pleasant, one of Missouri’s oldest wineries, that dates to 1859. The sale may well complete the winery acquisitions Hoffmann has acquired in America’s first official American Viniculture Appellation (AVA), which now includes Balducci Vineyards, Augusta Wine Company, Montelle Winery, Knoernschild Vineyards, Washington Vines, and 13 buildings in downtown Augusta.

The project, which was launched two months ago, represents a $100 million investment. Hoffmann’s goal is to create a world-class destination, a vision he shares with his wife, Jerri, who feels they are coming home. Both were in nearby Washington, Missouri, and are planning  to return to the area where a new home is now under construction.

The award-winning Augusta wineries are the foundation of the master plan for the restoration and revitalization of the Augusta area – a plan that also includes the Washington area. Most importantly, the Hoffmanns are dedicated to keeping the integrity, quality and Augusta’s historic wine traditions and the beauty of the area intact.

When asked to comment on the changes taking place in Augusta’s wine region, director of Missouri Wine & Grape Board, Jim Anderson, said, “We feel having this investment in Missouri wine industry strengthens it, and will bring elevated exposure for Augusta, our industry and  Missouri wines.”
