The Gateway Arch National Park continues a tradition this weekend with the Twelfth Afternoon Ball.
The annual event recognizes the completion of the 12 Days of Christmas, which was a major celebration during St. Louis’ French colonial era. This year’s ball on Saturday, Jan. 7, takes place from noon to 4 p.m. and will highlight popular music and dances from 1773.
The 1773 Twelfth Afternoon Ball will feature live music from singer and fiddler Dennis Stroughmatt, dancing by living history interpreters dressed in authentic period clothing, and food demonstrations from acclaimed culinary historian (and Gazelle contributor) Suzanne Corbett.
The event on the mezzanine level of the visitor center is free and open to all ages, and visitors may drop in any time during the event.
There is currently no mask requirement at the Arch, after the National Park Service (NPS) earlier this week lifted its mask mandate from late December. However, NPS officials continue to monitor COVID-19 rates in the city and may reinstate the mandate if the number of cases increase.
