Just in time to celebrate African-American Music Appreciation Month, R&B, pop and electric soul artist Vina Mill’s new single, “Serena Williams” pays tribute to the beauty and essence of black and brown women everywhere.

Produced by The Raz of the Dezperawdos (Swizz Beats/Candice Boyd), the track has a definite hip-hop, yet tribal vibe, while proclaiming pride in natural beauty, no matter your shape or size, or unique features you possess.

In a statement, Mills said the record represents black excellence, which is exactly what Serena Williams is to her.

“You can’t help but feel that natural power and beauty we’re all born with. My goal for this record is to leave the listener with confidence, enlightenment and an urge to pay it forward to the culture,” Mills said.

She describes electric soul as the music you can dance to, and dance music you can feel.

Originally from Detroit, Mills began performing when she was just 6 years old, with the guidance of her father, Vincent Revel. Through his training, the dancer, singer and songwriter developed a unique gift for expressing herself through music.

She has described her music as “kind of different,” not a typical way of writing or a typical way of sounding.

Mills released her first national single, “Love Again” in April 2011, a track with instrumentation of continuous heart-like pulsating drum beats and crying strings.

She has opened for such notable artists as The Isley Brothers, Mary J. Blige and Lil Wayne. She has toured as a dancer for Lloyd, Yung Joc and Sammie.
