Celebration was in the air as the St. Louis County Library (SLCL) marked its 75th anniversary milestone, as well as multiple awards and recognitions earned in 2022, during a recent gathering of friends and supporters of the SLCL Foundation at The Sheldon.
The evening began with an intimate VIP reception, followed by an ’80s-themed concert by Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and community activist Brian Owens, who, along with his band, performed to the hilt from start to finish. Audience members rocked out to high-energy hits from Journey, New Edition, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and more. A rousing tribute to Prince with the performance of “Purple Rain” was among the highlights.
The St. Louis County Library was recently recognized as 2022 Missouri Library of the Year by the Missouri Library Association. Earlier this year, SLCL was named one of only six recipients of the 2022 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor given to libraries and museums.
