Several Fashion Brands that Put Our Planet First

Sustainable fashion is the new black.

Fast fashion is described as inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by market retailers in response to the latest trends. Consumers are huge fans of fast fashion, but it comes at a huge cost. It is accompanied by issues such as water conservation, hazardous chemicals, waste, and health-damaging pesticides and chemicals. Many fashion companies began to realize that this wreaks havoc on the planet and are switching to sustainable methods:

Here are several that remain both eco-friendly and fashionable:

Aardes

The origin of this brand’s name is the Dutch word Aarde, meaning earth. The brand’s mission is to reconnect with nature and create eco-friendly fashion that does not come at harsh human or environmental costs. It only produces one collection a year to maintain as much energy efficiency as possible. Once a style sells out, it is re-ordered dependent on demand.

Everlane

Everlane has worked hard to eliminate all virgin plastic from its supply chain and move all cotton production to organic. It has transitioned 75% of apparel materials to recycled materials crafted from plastic water bottles, fishing nets and other items destined for waste. It has transitioned 45% of its footwear components to recycled materials, and uses renewed versions of shopping bags that are recycled at distribution centers to create furniture.

Kayu

Kayu only uses natural organic straw, not synthetic. Natural straw is readily available and grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizer. The straw is also decomposable. The company is working toward zero waste by upcycling factory scraps into small accessories and donating straw scraps for use as fertilizer.

Levi Strauss & Co.

Levi Strauss is on a mission to minimize its environmental impact and make it easy for you to do the same. Levi’s Tailor Shops can extend the life of your jeans by patching up rips, repairing hems, replacing buttons and more. Before you throw away your old favorite jeans, add some soul to them.

Thredup

Thredup claims to be the largest online resale shop, and is always updating its website with thousands of like-new styles from your favorite brands, at a substantial discount. Find quality women’s and children’s clothing from trendy closets just like yours. All items are curated by style experts for trendiness and authenticity.

Verloop

Verloop thrives on experimentation and reform for creative consumers looking for functional styles that complement modern life. Its pieces are constructed of scraps and repurposed yarn – less waste for a happier planet. Verloop collaborates with a crew of knitters who create unique accessories that implant unexpected details and techniques into traditional knits.
