The Spotlight is on St. Louis Music at Music at the Intersection

St. Louis-bred alt-rock band The Urge will perform at Music at the Intersection.

This weekend, some of St. Louis’ biggest musicians and up-and-coming artists will join marquee national acts for Music at the Intersection, a massive live-music festival in Grand Center.

Now in its second year, the two-day festival on Sept. 10 and 11 shines the spotlight on St. Louis-based artists across genres, including blues, jazz, soul, R&B, hip-hop and rock ‘n’ roll, and honors the city’s imprint and influence on the American songbook.

The event is a civic-led effort presented by Kranzberg Arts Foundation in partnership with Steward Family Foundation and the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis.

Erykah Badu is among the festival headliners.

More than 50 national, regional and local acts are set to perform on four stages throughout the Grand Center Arts District. Among the headliners are R&B singer-songwriter Erykah Badu, blues rocker Gary Clark Jr., blues icon Buddy Guy and jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington. They’ll be sharing the stage with St. Louis-bred rockers The Urge, hip-hop stars Murphy Lee and Kyjuan of the St. Lunatics, Lady D Huston, The Bosman Twins, Soulard Blues Band, and more.

Other highlights include tributes to St. Louis legends Tina Turner, Albert King and Henry Townsend, as well as a special celebration of Montez Coleman.

The stages are located outdoors throughout Grand Center, stretching across Washington Avenue, just east of Grand Boulevard.

In addition to the concerts, Music at the Intersection will feature a “Mural Market” where local artisan vendors and live art and artist demos will be held. Venues throughout Grand Center such as The Sheldon, The Grandel and Jazz St. Louis will also open their doors for pre- and after-party concerts.

Murphy Lee, along with fellow St. Lunatics member Kyjuan, will perform on Sept. 10.

Tickets are currently on sale via Metrotix, with prices starting at $149 for all-weekend access or $79 for a day pass. Limited GA+ and VIP tickets are also available, and includes perks such as bar access, dedicated indoor restrooms and a special concert viewing area.

Festival grounds open at 11 a.m. on Sept. 10 and 11, with live music beginning at noon on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Performances are expected to last until well after sunset.  For a complete lineup and schedule of events, visit the official Music at the Intersection website.
