Eight individuals and organizations will be honored at the 2021 St. Louis Arts Awards for their significant contributions to the region’s arts community.
The Arts and Education Council recently announced the recipients of the award, which has honored some 190 artists, educators, philanthropists, corporate citizens and arts organizations since 1992.
The 2021 honorees are: Acclaimed choral director of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus Amy Kaiser (Lifetime Achievement in the Arts); COCA co-artistic directors of dance Kirven and Antonio Douthit-Boyd (Excellence in the Arts); singer, songwriter and community activist Brian Owens (Excellence in the Arts); local arts benefactors Lynne and Jim Turley (Excellence in Philanthropy); Creative Reaction Lab’s Antionette Carroll (Arts Innovator); “Such Sweet Thunder” presented in October 2019 by St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, Nine Network of Public Media, Jazz St. Louis and The Big Muddy Dance Company (Arts Collaboration); Jennings School District director of orchestras James McKay Jr. (Art Educator of the Year); and Switch’s John Nickel, a longtime Arts and Education Council supporter (30th Anniversary Chairperson’s Award).
The awards ceremony, now in its 30th year, will be held Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at The Chase Park Plaza, with tickets to go on sale this fall.
Nominations for the awards were submitted by the public in April, and honorees were selected by a volunteer committee of previous award recipients, arts patrons, artists, arts administrators and community volunteers.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Arts and Education Council, which offers programs and services that support more than 70 arts and arts education organizations impacting 1.6 million people throughout the St. Louis bi-state region.
