(Editor’s Note: Due to this week’s extreme heat, Dog Days of August at The St. Louis Wheel has been rescheduled for Monday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the safety of pets and their humans. Dogs must be leashed to ride The Wheel for free on the 28th, along with their ticketed humans.)Â
The St. Louis Wheel at Union Station is looking for the best good boys and girls.
The attraction is celebrating Dog Days of August and National Dog Month by giving away free rides to four-legged passengers on Thursday, Aug. 24.
The St. Louis Wheel is welcoming dogs and their ticketed humans from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday. This is only the second time dogs have been allowed to ride on the wheel, which feature 42 air-conditioned gondolas that provide a 20-mile view of the skyline from 200 feet.
Those concerned about the heat are encouraged to bring their dogs early or in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day. Water bowls will be available at the Purina Performance Plaza near the wheel. Dogs will also get a free treat as part of the celebration while supplies last.
Dogs must be leashed during the ride and while on the plaza grounds. Tickets are available in person or online in advance.
