Trish’s Tried-and-True Lemonade (as featured on The Stir)

Did you know that as much as 50% of all Hollywood films is based on some kind of literary work? That’s just one of the juicy tidbits you’ll learn from the world of movie-making from this week’s SIP Series program on The Stir.

Host Trish Muyco-Tobin is once again joined by guest co-host, entertainment columnist, sitcom creator and producer, and newly minted author, Debbie Baldwin.

True to form, the show ends on a sweet note, featuring the perfect companion to a good book: Trish’s Tried-and-True Lemonade, especially good for warm-weather days spent relaxing under the shade in your backyard garden or patio.

TRISH’S TRIED-AND-TRUE LEMONADE

Ingredients:

  • 5 large lemons (or 6 to 8 smaller ones, depending on size)
  • Zest from ½ lemon, optional
  • 1 ¼ to 1 ½ cups sugar*
  • 6 cups water, divided

Directions:

  1. Wash and dry lemons. Roll whole lemons on clean cutting board, pressing firmly while rolling to release more juice from each fruit. If desired, use a citrus zester to zest one of the lemons until you have enough zest from half a lemon.
  2. Combine zest and sugar with one cup water in a small saucepan. *Use 1 1 ¼ cups sugar for sweet/tart balance or 1 ½ cups sugar for a sweeter lemonade.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium heat; stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove syrup from heat and cool slightly.
  4. While syrup is cooling, slice and juice lemons.
  5. Combine juice, syrup and remaining five cups of water in a 2-quart pitcher. Mix well.
  6. Chill and serve over ice.
