Take off your clothes and support a nonprofit charity in the upcoming Cupid’s Undie Run on Feb. 8. The dress code is definitely informal.
Yes, tighty-whities, briefs, bikinis and boxers are acceptable, and one man’s (or woman’s) idea of undies is as individual as the person. A chilly day may inspire even more creative concoctions.
The race raises money for neurofibromatosis, a rare genetic disorder that affects 1 in 3,000 births, causing tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. The original undie runners were in Washington D.C. in 2010. Thyy ran in their undies because those affected with NF can’t cover up their tumors, so they decided to strip down in solidarity.
The one “mile-ish” annual fun run funds research of the disease through the Children’s Tumor Foundation. This year, Cupid’s Undie Run will take place in 38 cities across the United States. To date, the nationwide event has raised nearly $19 million for CTF.
Cupid’s Undie Run – St. Louis is a party, followed by the one-mile run at your own pace, with a dance party afterward. Though wearing only undies are encouraged as part of the fun, those who do not feel comfortable doing so, can still join in and help raise money for NF research.
Start a team, join a team or run solo. All team members must register individually. Medals will be given for first, second and third placed fundraising individuals, and trophies will be given for first, second and third placed fundraising teams. Fundraisers have a chance to win other prizes like undies and socks, open bar, embroidered bathrobes, Timbuk2 messenger bags or backpacks, and Patagonia jackets.
Doors open for Cupid’s Undie Run at noon on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Ballpark Village, 601 Clark Avenue in St. Louis. Activities run through 4 p.m. Entry fee is $40. To register or for more information, visit cupidsundierun.com.
