Now through June 26, you can run or ride and do your part to help the St. Louis region recover from the financial crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an effort to support local businesses and charities, organizers have created The Gateway Resilience Run, a virtual running, cycling and walking event in which participants complete the course on their own.
With more than 250 area races, bike rides and charitable walks cancelled or postponed through the end of June, The Gateway Resilience Run is one way for St. Louisans to stay motivated, while supporting individuals and groups hardest hit by the coronavirus.
The run, a collaboration between The Gateway Resilience Fund and Big River Race Management, is designed for participants to complete on their own at their convenience.
Upon registration, participants first choose the distance they’d like to run or ride, just as they would during a live running event. The next step is to conquer the distance desired to earn a finisher medal. The distance set by the event selected can be completed at any location (even indoors!) and at any time of the day. There is no time limit the distance must be covered in, and it can be split up between multiple days. Once the course is completed, participants submit their time online to be included in the race results page. The important thing, organizers say, is to at least finish the event, complete the distance and have fun.
Participants who register will receive a medal that shows off a St. Louis landmark, as well as a Social Distance Club t-shirt and a virtual goodie bag with special offers from local small businesses.
The registration fee is between $25 and $60, depending on the distance. All proceeds benefit The Gateway Resilience Fund and participating local charities. For more information and to register, click here.
