“Wes-Fest,” a celebration of filmmaker Wes Anderson and his work, is coming to the Hi-Pointe Theatre next month.
Anderson, known for eccentricity, symmetry and the use of vivid color in his films, is the subject of a six-film retrospective presented by Cinema St. Louis. The writer-director has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, including three times for Best Original Screenplay.
“Wes-Fest” will be held over the first two weekends in June is in anticipation of Anderson’s 11th feature film, “Asteroid City,” a sci-fi romance set in the 1950s during the annual Junior Stargazer convention. Set to be released June 16, it consists of a large ensemble cast, including Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Maya Hawke and others.
Cinema St. Louis will screen Anderson’s first six live-action films June 2 to 11, beginning with his 1996 debut, “Bottle Rocket” (June 2). The series continues with “Rushmore” (June 3), “The Royal Tenenbaums” (June 4), “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” (June 9) and “The Darjeeling Limited” (June 10), and culminates with 2012’s “Moonrise Kingdom.”
Films on Fridays and Saturdays will screen at 7 p.m., and on Sundays at 5 p.m. All films will be shown at the Hi-Pointe (1005 McCausland Ave.); tickets are $12 (general admission) and $10 (students and Cinema St. Louis members).
