Kravitz
After months of speculation, Zoë Kravitz, daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, best known for performances in “X Men: First Class,” the “Divergent” series, and most recently, “Big Little Lies,” as the brooding Bonnie, has been cast to play Catwoman in “The Batman.”
One of the many reasons this role is significant to her, is that a few years back, she was denied the role in “The Dark Knight Rises.”
“In the last Batman movie (‘The Dark Knight Rises’), they told me that I couldn’t get an audition for a small role they were casting because they weren’t ‘going urban,’” she said at the time. “It was like, ‘What does that have to do with anything?’ I have to play the role like, ‘Yo, what’s up, Batman? What’s going on wit chu?’”

Kravitz
The women who played Batman’s feline nemesis before her have set a high standard. Anne Hathaway was Catwoman in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” Halle Berry in 2004’s “Catwoman,” and Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992’s “Batman Returns.” The incomparable Eartha Kitt was the first black woman to play the role in the 1960s Batman TV series.
Pfeiffer had an important piece of advice for Kravitz, “Make sure whilst designing the costume, they consider how you’re gonna go to the bathroom. Minor detail, but it’s an important one.”
