In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Humane Society of Missouri has announced it is temporarily limiting adoptions to appointment-only and postponing all other scheduled shelter visits, including field trips and other programs, effective immediately. The organization’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch open house hours are also being suspended at this time.
In addition, the Humane Society is offering a reduction in adoption fees to ensure that as many animals as possible can find permanent homes. The cut in fees is effective until Sunday, March 22.
- Adoption fee waived for adult dogs, adult cats and critters
- 50% off the adoption fee for puppies and kittens
- 25% off the adoption fee for goats
- Some exceptions may apply

For those interested in adoption at this time, call (314) 951-1562 for the Macklind Avenue headquarters; (314) 951-1588 for the Best Buddy Pet Center, and (636) 583-8759 for Longmeadow Rescue Ranch. Appointments will be scheduled between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at headquarters and Best Buddy Pet Center; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch.
According to Humane Society officials, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19 and there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19. The organization is requesting that anyone bringing in a stray animal or surrendering a pet to call (314) 951-1562. Intake hours will be between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
