One of St. Louis’ most beloved public spaces is turning 150 years old.

Tower Grove Park, one of only eight National Historic Landmark parks in the country, is celebrating its sesquicentennial this year with a special event this summer that is free and open to all.

“Love in the Park” takes place June 12 as park of Tower Grove’s yearlong sesquicentennial celebration. The event from noon to 4 p.m. at the Roman Pavilion will feature music, food and drinks and vendors. The highlight of the day will be a ceremonial vow renewal, complete with a first dance and flower toss, to commemorate the countless proposals, engagements and weddings that have taken place in the park over the years.

In addition, Tower Grove Park is looking for St. Louisans to share their stories of finding “love in the park.” Stories submitted online will be shared through June on the park’s social media outlets.

Additional events in honor of the milestone anniversary includes a ticketed Sept. 28th gala and a public “birthday bash” on Oct. 23.

Tower Grove Park, which officially opened to the public on Sept. 28, 1872, is located in the center of one of the most socio-economically diverse and densely populated neighborhoods in the St. Louis region. Aside from being a National Historic Landmark park, Tower Grove is an accredited arboretum and features an internationally renowned collection of Victorian architecture.
