Nibbles & Nosh: September’s Sweet Birthday Deals

By Candy Coleman Petrofsky

They say it’s my birthday, but it’s your birthday, too – on Sept. 12! That’s because some of our best food and beverage buds are offering all of us some pretty sweet deals next Monday, which happens to be when I turn (ahem!) 52!

Peacock Diner in the Delmar Loop is offering 52-cent birthday cake-flavored ice cream scoops on Sept. 12! Just pull up this column on your phone for the sweet treat!

Birthday Cake ice cream scoops at Peacock Diner

Located in the heart of Delmar Loop, Peacock is a unique St. Louis diner, known for its all-day breakfasts, griddled burgers, spiked milkshakes and retro decor. In addition, they have skee ball, bubble hockey and display cases with collections of peacock and old-time diner memorabilia. Oh, and that fancy, prancy 11-foot wide sign of theirs? It weighs 1800 pounds, has 50 transformers and over 680 feet of neon tubing!

My friends at Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream in the Grove know how passionate I am about coffee! And on Sept. 12, they’re offering 52-cent cups of coffee, with a pastry purchase.

Serendipity’s Beckie Jacobs with La Bonne Bouchée owner/president Martha Uhlhorn

Owner Beckie Jacobs recently opened her beautiful new shop in the Grove, expanded her hours and is now offering an assortment of javas from Kaldi’s. Plus, she’s got a new espresso machine to make cool craft coffees. And talk about being on a roll: Beckie is now working with the crème de la crème – La Bonne Bouchée – to sell its delicious pastries in the city. Choose from danishes, cinnamon rolls, muffins, croissants, buns, breakfast loaves, ice cream, oh my! Just pull up this column on your phone to redeem the coffee special. By the way, Serendipity is open until 1 p.m. on Sept. 12.

Pioneer Bakery Café will give all customers 20% off everything, provided you pull up this column on your phone and show it to the cashier on Sept. 12.

An absolutely beautiful partnership between McArthur’s Bakery and Lafayette Industries, Pioneer Bakery Café aims to provide the most robust fast-casual training program focusing on front-of-house and back-of-house skills for adults with intellectual disabilities. Go because you love the mission and munch and brunch on the exquisite lineup of omelets, pancakes, salads, sandwiches and an array of amazing coffees and teas!

And finally, Juniper, a Southern Table & Bar, is offering $5.20 off its $49 tasting menu the entire month on September!

Juniper’s Shrimp & Grits

I lived in the South for many, many years and I love Southern food, but it’s so hard to decide on just one thing! And it’s in that spirit that Juniper devised a phenomenal three-course tasting menu, with choice of a salad, a starter and a main entree, such as blackened catfish, shrimp & grits, its famous “country rib,” or the petite tender is also available for a slight upcharge. If you don’t want the salad, you can choose to end with a dessert instead. You know the drill, just pull up the column to redeem!

Other notable things about this coming Monday, Sept. 12? It’s National Chocolate Milkshake Day! And in the year 1970? Hamburger Helper made its debut – and so did Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Popping Corn!

Cheers to all the Virgos and Libras celebrating in September! And just in case you were wondering … How do pickles celebrate their birthdays? They relish them – because birthdays are a big dill!
