When Santa arrives at St. Louis Union Station to climb aboard the Polar Express, where does he park his sleigh? The Sleigh Shed, aka the Train Shed restaurant, inside Union Station’s historic 1894 train shed – a place that has been transformed into a glittery holiday oasis where holiday-themed craft cocktails and small to large plates are served.
The Sleigh Shed is now open, so, belly up to the bar that’s been bedecked with greenery and lights, or get cozy at a booth or table and imbibe. The drink menu includes cocktails and mocktails, with standouts such as Santa’s Red -Eye Fix, a coffee, vodka and Madagascar vanilla liqueur concoction; and the Sleighcation that mixes double aged dark rum and coconut rum with hazelnut liqueur.
If you love chocolate, sip on a cup of Three Kings, a mix of two chocolate liqueurs and Ghirardelli hot chocolate. Pair it with the festive gooey butter cake that is served cut into tree and star shapes. It’s a super combo to enjoy while catching in the lakeside fire and light show that plays on the hour. For the best view, ask your server for a window seat.
On the savory side, share the seasonal charcuterie board and eviled eggs. Follow with one of the menu’s heartier winter entrees, such as holiday ham with glazed carrots, or a carnivore’s fave, slow-braised short ribs dished with smoked gouda grits.
The Sleigh Shed at the Train Shed is now open daily, with the yuletide décor and holiday menu running through New Year’s Eve. The Sleigh Shed is open Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m
The Sleigh She is just steps away from the St. Louis Aquarium, or a short walk to board the Polar Express, ride on the 200-foot-tall St. Louis Wheel, or shop the holiday market in the outdoor plaza. It’s a full day and night of activities that can warrant a sleepover at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as all of Union Station is now also dressed for the holidays – a destination Santa recommends for his own Christmas getaway.
